What is My House Story?
My House Story is a bespoke historical research service that uncovers the story of your home. We investigate its origins, past owners, and the events that shaped it. The result is a beautifully presented report or display print that brings your home’s history to life.
What types of properties can you research?
My House Story specialises in researching older properties, for which there remains rich archival material. As a general rule, we accept properties built before 1935. Properties from after this date tend to have limited historical records available, making it difficult to produce the level of detail and narrative we pride ourselves on.

If you are unsure of your home's age, we can usually make a quick assessment from the information that you will provide to us at the outset of any project.
How do you research my property?
We use a wide range of trusted historical sources, including census records, electoral rolls, old maps, directories, newspapers, local history publications and more. We cross-check multiple sources to ensure accuracy and create a clear narrative.
What will I receive?
Depending on your chosen package, you will receive:

A detailed digital report (PDF) packed with history and images.

A beautifully designed A3 display print summarising the property’s story.

Or a combined package that includes both.
How long does the research take?
Research typically takes 2–3 weeks, depending on the age of the property and the complexity of its history. We’ll keep you updated if anything requires more time.
What information do you need from me?
The full address of your property, including postcode. If you have any old deeds, photos, or snippets of history you’d like us to consider, you can send them — but they’re entirely optional.

If you know that your house originally had a different address such as a different street name or house number this is also helpful to know in advance.
How far back can you trace my home’s history?
This depends on the property and the availability records. It is only from 1841 that we have available census data on specific addresses so although you may own an older property the most detailed information will cover its history from the 19th century. We always explore as far as the available records allow.
Can you research properties outside the UK?
At present, My House Story specialises in UK properties only, due to the unique structure of British historical records and our researcher's 20 years of experience in using these records.
Does the service include genealogy?
We focus on your house and its occupants as they relate to the property. We may include interesting biographical details about past residents, but we do not offer full family history research.
Will you visit my property in person?
No — all research is done using digital archives, collections, and official records.
Is my information kept confidential?
Absolutely. We only use your address for research purposes and never share your details with anyone. Please read our Terms and Conditions to learn more.
How do I order?
Simply choose your preferred option on our website, submit your order, and provide information on the order initiation form. We’ll take it from there.
Can this be bought as a gift?
Yes! A My House Story report or display print makes a unique and thoughtful gift for birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, or anyone who loves their home.
Do you offer refunds?
Because each report is fully bespoke and made-to-order, refunds are offered only if we have not yet begun the research. If records for your property are unusually limited, we will always contact you to discuss options.
